IDC Opens Public Voting for the 2022 Smart City Asia Pacific Awards
75 Asia/Pacific Smart City Initiatives Competing to be Named Top Leaders in 15 eService Categories
IDC Government Insights Asia/Pacific opens public voting categories for the eighth straight year as it continues its search for the top smart city projects in Asia/Pacific*. Out of over 330 smart city nominations from public and private enterprises in Asia Pacific, only the top 75 projects in 15 eService categories were named as finalists and qualify for public voting - the second phase of the IDC Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA). IDC invites the region’s citizens to vote on these finalists at our IDC Asia Pacific Smart City Awards website until the 7th of April 2022 and get a chance to win a raffle prize.
Citizens can vote for their top projects through the IDC Smart City Website until 07 April 2022.
The Asia/Pacific winners for each category are decided according to IDC analysts’ benchmarking, public voting, and assessment from an International Advisory Council.
"The socioeconomic resilience of cities has never been more tested in the past 2 years. Notably, successful cities of well-rounded 'live, learn, work, and play' dynamics have managed to evolve agilely through digital initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining both manpower talents and sustained smart city investments, while others that didn't embrace change, struggled. A pandemic-influenced slowing urbanization, and growing counter urbanization, has seen several non-capital cities take centerstage in their digitalization efforts, as they seek to woo new residents with better city oversight and manageability, new future of work ecosystems, and promises of a better life," notes Gerald Wang, Director and Head, Asia Pacific Public Sector, IDC.
The IDC Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA) was created to identify, benchmark, and gather citizen opinion through public voting on the best projects each year across 14 functional smart city strategic domains and one new special category. It is an intensive six-month process that tracks and evaluates hundreds of smart city initiatives in Asia/Pacific.
"In the 75 outstanding smart city projects (out of 330+ projects submitted) that will be revealed for your votes today, IDC believes that you will find much information on the various innovative projects that subnational governments are investing in."

This year, IDC is introducing an additional special category on Pandemic Management. Today, digital-first approaches for each healthcare system are essential pre-requisites to attain preventative and recovery measures for pandemic management. IDC’s SCAPA recognizes that many healthcare authorities are realizing that pandemic care is not just about managing health and patient outcomes. These digital health adoptions will enable authorities to balance between the demands of personalized health goals and scale up effectually for wider-scale pandemic management needs.
Wang added, "In the 75 outstanding smart city projects (out of 330+ projects submitted) that will be revealed for your votes today, IDC believes that you will find much information on the various innovative projects that subnational governments are investing in, and this year, we've created a special category of ‘Pandemic Management’ due to the overwhelming submission of projects pertaining to strategic operations for COVID-19. We look forward to your participation and thank you for your keen interest in our awards program. I wish all the 75 finalists the best of luck and keep your votes coming in for your favorite smart city project!”
